A “Day in the Life” of an Oeuvre Poodle

As ethical breeders, I believe it is important to give transparency into how our dogs live. Our dogs are not kept in kennels all day or closed off in a specific section of our house. Matter of fact, our lives sort of revolve around them!

A typical day in our household looks something like this. We believe crate training to be a foundational skill for all of our dogs. They sleep in their kennels, travel in them (they are crash safety-tested), and hang out there when we need to rotate dogs for any reason.

During the day, they are where we are (typically kitchen, living room, or office!). We don’t use pee-pads, all of our dogs are let out into the yard to run and play multiple times a day. We also have a covered pea gravel dog run, which is great for rainy and/or muddy days.

Our basement is semi-finished and has a complete grooming set up where I can groom the poodles. We also have additional play space for the dogs which is connected to our dog run area, complete with their own couch!

Our dogs are fed a high-quality diet, and we alternate proteins and kibbles to keep it interesting for them. We feed both raw and kibble, depending on the individual. For raw, we are big fans of Primal Raw. For kibble, we feed Purina, Royal Canin, Inukshuk, and Farmina products.

Our dogs are extensively socialized. We take them to dog shows and classes, and plenty of local adventures. They peacefully coexist with a cat and five chickens, and are exposed to all kinds of people and dogs.

Poodles in show coat are groomed every 4-6 days for maintenance, and hair is banded and wrapped for protection. We enjoy doing a variety of “pet” trims on our non-show dogs, and are happy to give grooming advice.
